The food and coffee are fine. Unlike last week, but like most places, they charge separately for avocado and feta. For $3.50 I was pretty disappointed with my tiny serving of avocado! And my hollindaise was cold.

Annoying Brother
There weren't many people eating at Annoying Brother, but a lot of people getting take away coffee - and the coffee was very good!
The menu was pretty basic and traditional, but the food was tasty and nicely presented.
One nice touch, the avocado side was ready mixed with feta for only $4.50 instead of making me pay $4 for each!

St Martha
We're over in Essendon today so stopped at St Martha for brunch.
It all seemed nice ....
The art on the walls is from local high school students and while that's a noble gesture it wasn't my style.
It took about 10 minutes to order coffee after sitting down - we were actually just about to leave when they came to take our order.
The food was ok, but the presentation was terrible - they had attempted a fancy layout with sprinkles of feta, tomato and rocket, but it just look amateur.
Also for $16 I got a blob of mashed avocado and a single poached egg - not the best value!!
Add it to the list of average cafés in the west!

Two little pigs
This is a new place on Sydney Road, it was too busy last week so we were up bright and early this week to get a seat.
It's a charcuterie so very meat focused.
I had the jamon and hollindaise (aka eggs benny), the prosciutto overpowered the hollindaise a bit, Reid had the bubble and squeak and the portion size was a bit small for a chickpea patty, but all still tasty!
Good coffee and interior design.

North
We're heading into the city so just randomly picked a cafe on the way.
The menu is pretty traditional, muesli, porridge, eggs with sides etc
I had poached eggs with avacado & feta and Reid had the Huevos Rancheros - portions were sizeable altho everything was quite plain, Reid described his as Huevos Blandcheros.

Foxtrot Charlie
Foxtrot Charlie is a new cafe on Sydney road, just across from the Albert St Foodstore. Is this spot becoming a new foodie destination?
The food was fantastic!
I had poached eggs on a chickpea panella with quinoa salad. It came with an Indian spice flavoured chutney that was amazing! Reid had the nettle omelette - it's one of the most flavoursome omelettes I've ever tasted!!
We'll definitely come back here again!

Stagger Lee's
Stagger Lee's is a new cafe from the same people as Proud Mary.
Interior design is clean and modern, with the traditional exposed brick wall.
It's a bit noisy and the food was fine - well presented but a bit light on some key ingredients.
The coffee was great tho!!

Goldilocks
A quick drink in the beautiful late March sunshine before grabbing some pho and heading to the Shelf

Gorski and Jones
Not the best breakfast - maybe that explains why this place didn't show up in the Broadsheet search
My food was pretty tasty but didn't look very appetising and Reid's omelette didn't look so good and was lacking any flavour.
There are also a lot fewer people here than I'd expected

New Gold Mountain
Stopped in for a night cap after seeing Wil Anderson, this place is really cool, dim lighting, casual service, easy listening music.
A guy proposed at the end of Wil's show - it was so sweet :-)

Dead Man Espresso
In South Melbourne for our semi regular visit to Chef Hat and the Market.
We're having breakfast at Dead Man Espresso, sitting on the balcony overlooking a little back street of South Melbourne.
The menu choices were pretty standard, but nicely presented. Reid had a variation of the big breakfast, which was alright. I had potato hash and fired egg - it was pretty good!

Carolina
The sign on the window says 'Invitacus Italian handmade shoes for men and children'. But inside is a very traditional Brunswick style cafe with the mid century furnishings, pressed tin ceiling and paint flaking off the brickwork.
The food and coffee were pretty good - with some unusual touches. I had corn and jalapeño fritters and Reid had a baked eggs variation (eggs in a pan).

Auction Rooms
We've been meaning to come back to Auction Rooms for ages and we finally left the house early enough to get here - although there was still a 15 minute wait!
The food also took age to come out but it was pretty good - the sous vide egg was interesting and yummo! Interesting flavour combo with the nectarine and kingfish
